Much is made of the great divide that separates Australia from New Zealand. Each year thousands of Kiwis head across the ditch in search of higher wages and warmer weather, though some, like me, are returning.
Many economic and lifestyle indicators are used to explain the appeal of Australia to Kiwis. I offer another – dry-cleaning.
I’m astounded at the cost of getting clothes dry-cleaned here – it’s up to NZ$14 for one pair of trousers in central Wellington, with a turnaround time of four days. Compare this with the cost of cleaning three pairs of trousers for A$18 with a same-day service in Melbourne’s CBD
